News of the wine cellar

On August 26th, 2002 we began the complete rebuilding and new building of our winery (wine cellar, office, Vinotheque, Show Room, Museum etc.)
The complete wine cellar has been pulled down and a new, modern wine cellar, office etc. was built and has been equipped with the newest technology. We did that, because we want to be ready for the technical and economical challenges of the future.
Therefore we decided to build an new wine cellar with all the facilities of a modern and efficient wine-production, logistic, and so on, as a better economical foundation and basis instead of a rebuilding the wine cellar.
This also guarantees and higher efficiency. We started working in the new buildings in May 2003.
VINTAGE 2012
The white's are signalized by perfect fruit and mineral notes and a well structured body. Especially Sauvignon and  Pinot's are very typical as well and all varieties show nearly perfect acidity.
Vintage 2012: we talk about an unproblematic vintage.
The red wines are very successful, not too much body but with an elegance we did not have in the years before.
Acidity in perfect harmony with structure: this gives the wines from vintage 2012 the typical aroma.

Harvest (VINTAGE) 2011
Quality 2011 generally corresponds to vintage 2010.
Based on best weather conditions in late summer and
october and due a perfect natural sugar concentration we await a further increase in quality to vintage 2010.
Quantity will be more or less equal to 2010.
For Italy: Quantity 2011 is less 14% to 2010.
VINTAGE 2011
The vintage 2011 was characterized by early ripeness and early harvest.
Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio have already been harvested by the end of August, red grapes by the end of September with exception of some Cabernet and Merlot.
Despite early harvesting, white wines are well structured, fruity, mineralic and with lucious (crisp) acid.
Red wines have developed excellently due to warm and dry weather during ripening period and are characterized by complexity and strenght.
Awaiting the wine of the century?????

Vintage 2010
White wines: fruity + mineralic with varietal character
Red wines are of intensive colour, typical in variety with peasant taste and afte3rtase in the mouth.
These vintage,  2010,  produced drinkable wines and they are - about a relative low PH-value and higher acidity together with a perfect physiological ripeness - very joyful to drink.
These wines will also have a perfect ripeness and are suitable for long storage.
The only negative point: Production (quantity) of 2010 harvest was very small.....: High qualitiy by small quantity.

Harvest Preview 2010 - weather Jan. to mid of the year
January:  cold and dry
February: cool, not cold
March: spring draws attention to us ..............
April: rather dry, nice weather and warm
May: warmish and rainy
June: warm, rather dry
July: record in warmness plus dryness
August: colder and much more rain as in the years before.
Harvest begin: mid of September
It seems to become a perfect vintage
Harvest Preview as of 15th of September 2009
1/3 of the harvest is complete and in the  cellar. The harvesting of the Pinot Grigio - Sauvignon - Chardonnay  - Pinot Nero - Pinot Bianco is complete. We will start this week with the harvesting of the Schiava and the Gewürztraminer. All the grapes are very healthy with slightly higher levels of sugar content. Due to the warm temperatures this year as well as the higher levels of sugar the 2009 vintage will show a little less acidity than our 2008 vintage.

Harvest 2009 - characterful dry wines with varietal character, well balanced acidity and long aftertaste, this is how the wines of vintage 2009, red or white, are presenting themselves.
Richness and harmonic structure give the vintage 2009 the possibility to be named an "exceptionally top vintage".

Harvest Report 2008
More or less we have just completed our 156 harvest here at the Niedermayr winery and I am very excited about this special year of 2008 and wanted  to share some of my thoughts and observations with you.

After a not so warm and humid spring and summer we knew we would have a late harvest thus we started with harvest mid of September. We had a perfect period of warm and sunny weather to start the harvest, which allowed us to harvest all the whites, with the Pinots and also Sauvignon Blanc showing top quality and high gradations.
We were lucky also with the weather in the beginning of October and started harvesting the red's, Pinot Nero,Schiava and very slowly the Lagrein. I am happy to see, that all of our grapes are exeptionaly, healthy and matured with high sugar gradations. It has been some time since I have seen such quality in the entire bunch. We continue to have good weather and our Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon will be our last reds for this harvest.

One half of the hard work has been done and now the other half begins as we begin to craft the grapes into wines and it is my expectations that we will have a high quality 2008 vintage.
I am happy to say that our quantity levels for the 2008 vintage will be down slightly as a result of our intensive and hard work in the vineyards to continue to prune and stress for quality fruit from our vineyards and not quantity. It has been and always will be our driving force to create the best wines possible with only the best grapes and if that means to decrease our quantity so be it.

In comparison to the other wine growing regions of Italy we can fix our statement that in all points, Südtirol - Alto Adige will have again an exceptional quality vintage in 2008.
Although never are two vintages ever the same I am very happy with this 156th harvest and hope you will be too.

Preview Vintage 2007
Mild and humid winter, also spring quite humid and mild.
Because of these mild seasons we had a good but early bud break.
2007 WEATHER REPORT
January: exceptionally mild
February: exceptionally mild
March: warm, above average, normal rain quantity
April: exceptionally warm and dry
May: warm, but not extreme
June: a lot of rainy days, rainfall below average
July: warm and dry
Maturity of vines to date:
Graduation of sugar is at the moment on average, a little below last year, and acidity is 0,2 g/l , down from  2003, which is comparable with 2007.
August 2007: A similar month as August 2005 + 2006 with sufficient amount of rainfall.
Margin of Maturity: Even though the weather is now cooler and the rain has come we are still 2 to 3 weeks earlier than normal on maturity of the grapes.
Harvest / Vintage 2007:
in general good quality, high sugar, high acidity.
Vintage 2007
As we predicted after seeing our harvest from the 2007 vintage the wines have shown that they will be wines full of character with exeptional balance of fruit and minerality. The reds as well as the whites this year are showing the same high quality. We should be very happy to recommend this vintage for its ability to age for many years top come

Vintage 2006:
Cold, but snowy winter.
Also spring quite cold and humid.
But hot and dry summer, so that the shortfall of vegetation balanced.

Because of the snow, which remained the whole winter, there weren't any damages caused by the cold.
The blooms and the growing of the vine were varying.
The grapes started to grow well. The dry summer hasn't caused bigger grapes and because of no death vine and no damages from cold from a quantitative point of view an average harvest is expected. Also oidium was not much of a problem, because of the dry weather.

There was again an early harvest, starting at the beginning of September. Quality again quite high, Vintage 2006 is like 2004, that means: typical, fruity and minerally wines.
